12/15 Senior Homes Community Service Event

Last Saturday, December 15h, we went to a seniors house in Nantou to do community service. The seniors' house was having a special winter fair event, and we did several help outs ranging from cleaning the house to hosting a game booth, from accompanying and protecting the elderlies to entertaining them by playing mahjong with them. We all enjoyed talking with the elderlies and had learned many life lessons from them. This event was not just a community service event, it was also a very cool experience to understand people who are not as able as us and to learn how to take care of people.

12/14 Christmas Party

On Friday, December 14th, our high school and middle school students celebrated the holiday season with some wonderful traditions. The high school decorated gingerbread men while the middle school had their own DIY hot chocolate bar and enjoyed many sweet treats. Both groups of students participated in a Secret Santa where everyone got to open wonderful Christmas presents from their peers. We ended the afternoon with a holiday movie in Ms. Burden's classroom. On behalf of HAS Student Council, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

2018 Winter Performance

Winter Performance is an event to show off our talents and to celebrate our winter holiday. There were many performances, such as The Greatest Showman. We ate during the performances, and the food was provided by the PTA. The food from PTA were hot coffee, hot milk tea, ham and cheese croissants, cake rolls, mini puffs and sushi. The Winter Performance was on December 13, 2018. First we had “ The Greatest Showman” , which was performed by the middle schoolers. Beside grade performances, there were also some performances which were from t

12/7 Basketball Game vs. AST

The HAS Basketball team survived a thrilling 37-35 heart-pounder on Friday afternoon at home vs. AST. The game was within reach throughout, with neither club extending a double-digit advantage. A key 8-0 spurt to end the third quarter was just enough for the hosts as the Eagles mounted a furious final rally thanks to creating turnovers in a full-court press. Peter Cheng managed to get to the free throw line and sink two tosses, and the final AST shot from the baseline was off the mark. Cheng led the Wolves with another monster performance, pouring in 29 points, three rebounds, and snatching seven steals. Ni Shiue added four points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two assists. 2018 THIMUN Singapore

From November 19 to November 23, four students from the Model United Nations (MUN) club attended THIMUN Singapore this November. All of the students were representing the country of Libya, which provided a unique challenge as students had to argue for positions they did not personally support. McKenzie Chen, Ethan Murphy, and Vicky Hsu attended the conference for the first time. Ariel Chen, one of the MUN club co-presidents, attended for the second time. As the most experienced delegate attending, Ariel served as the ambassador and helped the other delegates research their issues and country’s viewpoint, write and revise their resolutions, and encouraged them to actively participate in their

12/4 Girls' Volleyball Game vs. HIS

After falling to AST, the “Lady Wolves” bounced back with a strong performance against Hsinchu International School, winning two out of three sets to secure the victory on Tuesday, December 4th. Vivian Chen once again made an impact with her serves, and Dana Tils emerged as the true vocal leader of the squad. Kelly Loo and Katya Salas also made impressive hustle plays to help contribute to the victory.

11/30 End of the Semester Trip

On November 30, 2018, both our high school and middle school went to Taipei for a fun-filled End of Semester celebration. This was an opportunity for our students and teachers to bond, get to know each other better and to celebrate all of the learning we have done this semester! We began the morning with an ice skating trip to Taipei Arena. Although, for many of our students, it was their first time, everyone had a lot of fun. It was a heartwarming sight to see some of our oldest seniors taking care of our fourth graders on the ice! After enjoying a Subway lunch, all of the students piled onto the busses for a trip to Danshui. Once we arrived, students were split into groups and got the cha

11/28 Girls' Volleyball Game vs. AST

The HAS girls volleyball team was defeated by American School in Taichung on Wednesday, November 28 in three sets. The girls came out with first game jitters in set 1 before storming back to secure a set 2 victory in a thriller. Vivian Chen went to the service line and rattled off more than a half-dozen consecutive service points to lead the Lady Wolves to a decisive game 3. However, AST was too fundamentally sound and took the match. Chen made her presence felt in her first game with the program. Her all-around play was complimented by strong performances from Dana Tils and Evelyn Lin.

11/24 Nantou Painting Event

On Saturday, November 24th, 25 students along with Mr. Swarthout went to Nantou to paint boxes with the dimensions of 6 by 2 by 3 meters. The students were divided into separate groups, each in charge of painting a side of the box, all with the theme of nature. The sun was beating down on all of us, causing everyone to suffer from dehydration and respiration. In the humid atmosphere, students were surrounded by clouds of dirt and bugs, along with Mr. Swarthout occasionally yelling, “Stay hydrated, kids!” This event showed the many talents of the students. Most showed their artistic side, a side that would have made Picasso proud. A few showed a great potential of being an archeologist, diggi

2018 Thanksgiving

On Friday, November 23rd, HAS celebrated American Thanksgiving with our annual potluck lunch! This Thanksgiving tradition is special for the HAS community because students, parents, teachers, and staff come together to enjoy a delicious meal together. We shared turkey and traditional side dishes, as well as many amazing dishes prepared by members of our community. Our very own Student Council members organized the meal as well as the activities to follow. High school students enjoyed Capture the Flag outside while our middle schoolers played some exciting Minute to Win It games indoors. This eventful day was truly enjoyed by everyone.
