Parent-Teacher Conference

On September 26th, HAS held its first parent-teacher conference of the year. Thank you to all the parents that came by to talk about their child’s progress. Parents and teachers had a pleasant night. We look forward to the next parent-teacher conference which will be on March 7th. See you there!

2018 Hsinchu City Athletic Competition Awards

The HAS Swim team participated in the 2018 Hsinchu City Athletic Competition on September 15th through 16th. The team won three medals and seven awards. Good job Swim Team! 9/26 Parent-Teacher Conference

Dear Parents and/or Guardians, We would like to invite you to attend Individual Parent-Teacher Conferences. These meetings are a valuable chance to meet with your child’s teachers to discuss how your child has settled in since the start of the new semester, review their progress, and consider next steps in their learning. Parent-Teacher Conferences are held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 4:00PM-7:00PM. Appointments are by drop-in only and translators will be available if necessary. September 2018 Alumni Spotlight: Schrasing Tong

Schrasing Tong, class of 2012, was an excelling student at HAS. While he was at HAS, he was the student body President. After he graduated from HAS, Schrasing went to Princeton University and studied electrical engineering. Currently, Schrasing is a PhD student at MIT studying Electrical Engineer and Computer Science.

2018 Lock-In

Our annual school tradition, the Lock-In, will be held on September 28 from 5PM to September 29 at 9:30AM. This annual school tradition is a great way for new and returning students and teachers to get to form strong bonds and build a sense of community. The students will have to opportunity to be involved with a number of different activities including competition games, video/board games, crafting, reading and much more. Students may bring their own books, handheld games, or other card/board games. At night, boys and girls in middle school and high school will be separated into different rooms for sleeping with designated male and female chaperones checking in periodically. Please see the

Prospective parents are invited to come and speak to the administration while also having a chance to explore the school. 9/15 College Fair

Hsinchu American School is very excited to be hosting a trip to the first annual Counselors Association of Taiwan College Fair at Taipei American School on Saturday, September 15th, from 2:00PM - 5:00PM. There will be over 130 colleges attending from 16 different countries including Boston University, NYU, University of California and University of Toronto. Colleges and universities will set up booths and students will be able to meet with various college representatives and to learn more about each school. 2018 IOWA Tests

Dear Parents and/or Guardians, On September 12-14, 2018, students in grade 4-8 will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The Iowa Assessments assess student achievement in Reading, Written Expression, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language, and Computation. We administer this test to assess where each child is performing academically and to see how our students’ achievements compare to others across the United States who complete the very same test. In addition, the data also highlights the valuable information about individual student strengths and weaknesses. Student Council Retreat

Last week, all members of the Student Council, along with Ms. Reep and Ms. Chen, travelled to Yilan for the annual Retreat. The students had a great time participating in team building activities, cooking together, getting to know each other better and planning all of the fun and cool events for this year. We look forward to the events that they will host this year including Lock-In, Homecoming, Spirit Weeks and Sports Day.
