10/5 Parent-Teacher Conference

Dear HAS Parents / Guardians: The teaching staff at Hsinchu American School would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the first semester Parent-Teacher Conference on October 5th from 16:00-19:00. This conference will be held for the purpose of increasing your understanding of the progress of your child. It will take place 4 weeks before midterm exams, which will give you time to receive teacher feedback that will help your child before the first quarter ends. Swimming Awards

HAS Swimming Captain Wen Chuang and three other students, Ian Hsu, Erwin Hsu, and Evonne Hsu participated in the Hsinchu City Athletics Competition (新竹市106年全市運動會) this past weekend. This event was held at the National Tsing Hua University (清華大學) Swimming Pool on September 23rd through September 24th hosted by the Hsinchu City Government. Our students won three medals and eleven awards. Good job HAS Swimming Team! Basketball Practices has Begun!

HAS Basketball Team practices every Wednesday and Friday from 3:10pm - 4:30pm led by Mr. Lines. They are off to a great start. The team is growing stronger and stronger every practice. Go wolves!

Spirit Week!

Next week will be Spirit Week at HAS! To promote school spirit, students would dress up accordingly to a certain category or theme each day. Please view the poster made by Ms. Reep!

HSINMUN Training Conference

MUN had a very productive day this past Saturday and learned a lot! The all-day training conference focused on procedure, resolution writing, and breaking out of comfort zones and learning to speak to other delegates. Both Ariel and McKenzie overcame their nerves and addressed a packed auditorium with over 150 other delegates. Our club leader May was on hand to help coach Ariel and McKenzie to success!

IOWA Tests

Dear Parents and/or Guardians, On September 27-29, 2016, students in grade 5-8 will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The Iowa Assessments assess student achievement in Reading, Written Expression, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language, and Computation. We administer this test to assess where each child is performing academically and to see how our students’ achievements compare to others across the United States who complete the very same test. In addition, the data also highlights the valuable information about individual student strengths and weaknesses. Back-to-School Night

HAS held its annual Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 13th. Parents were welcomed with a presentation regarding the school's academics, extra-curriculars and new facilities. Afterward, they had the opportunity to join the faculty in a dinner and to explore the new building. Parents stopped in to meet the faculty and everyone got to know each other. It was a great night for community building and a fun way to kick off the new academic year. Thanks to everyone who attended!

Student Council Retreat

On September 8th-9th, the Middle School and High School Student Council went on their annual retreat to Taipei, Taiwan supervised by Ms. Reep and Ms. Chen. The students began the retreat with a photo scavenger hunt that led them all over Taipei 101 and Xinyi District. This was a great opportunity for all of the students to get to know one another and build team spirit. After the scavenger hunt, they checked into the hotel and began planning the school events for the year with great success! Club Fair

On Friday, HAS held its annual Club Fair. The event was very successful and the faculty and students brought a lot of school spirit to the event! There was a barbecue during which students bonded and ate delicious food before playing fun activities. Student Council organized a presentation on each club, given by teachers and club leaders. Afterward, students circulated through the various extra-curriculars and registered in the ones that caught their interest. Overall, it was a fun day and got the year's extra-curriculars off to a great start!
