Dear Parents, this summer, HAS will cooperate with the Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG) to recommend our students for participation in their summer school program in the U.S.A. For more than 20 years, SIG has been offering the summer programs for academically advanced students at some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the nation.
In 2008, residential sessions for students in grades 4 through 11 will again be held at Amherst College, Bryn Mawr College, Emory University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Michigan and Vassar College. A new session at the University of Texas at Austin will focus on math and sciences, and will also continue to offer a program for 7th through 11th grades at Princeton University.
Here are some benefits that SIG is able to offer to gifted students: l Innovative Academics – Students study not just traditional subjects, but also may Search for Life in Outer Space, consider Global Climate and Global Change, or investigate the Secrets of Symbols. They have added 22 new courses to their curriculum this year. l Community – SIG brings together outstanding students from more than 40 states and 19 different countries, who are excited about learning and thrilled to be with like-minded students who share their interests and talents. l Outstanding Campus Facilities – Students experience the energy and excitement of campus life. While every campus is different, each has computer and science labs, outstanding libraries, and diverse recreational facilities. l Top Quality Instructors – SIG faculty includes college and university professors, educators of the gifted, professional practitioners, and experts from specific fields. l Safety & Security – All SIG campuses are in safe suburban locations and have campus security. At camp they can be reached at the on-campus SIG office seven days a week, and a registered nurse lives on campus and is on duty 24 hours a day.
